Welcome to the Township of Lent! Lent Township, MN is named after Harvey Lendt who emigrated from Germany in the mid 1800's, the Township of Lent was originally part of Wyoming Township until it seperated in 1870. Harvey then married Maggie Robinson and six children were born to them. He packed his supplies from St. Paul, then a mere trading post 35 miles away. The supplies were occasionally hauled with oxen. He traded salt to the Indians for venison and tanned the hides. Grandmother Lent made gloves and moccasins out of the hides. She also made her soap and lye. Their meals consisted mostly of corn-bread-berries-venison-honey and wild fowls. An important part of the Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area is located within Lent Township. Carlos Avery is a water reservoir covering 23,000 acres of wetland and offers sanctuary to plants, animals, and birds. In 1934, four years after the death of Carlos Avery (Minnesota Game and Fish Commissioner), the State was able to acquire the first parcel of tax forfeited land. A system of dams and dikes has helped create at least 23 pools in which water levels are carefully monitored to produce the most desired conditions. We have a strong support of many local organizations consisting of active volunteer members of our community such as the Stacy Lions Club and the Stacy Lent Volunteer Fire Department. |
